Coolum

Quieter than Noosa...
Less developed than Caloundra or Mooloolaba, Coolum offers an attractive alternative for family holidays on the Sunshine Coast.
The long beach with patrolled swimming is backed by national park where you can enjoy a shady walk down to the ocean. The beach is great for boogie boarding or learning to surf with the local surf schools. When a swell comes it’s also popular with more experienced surfers who can catch waves just down the coast at Point Arkwright too.
In the great Aussie tradition...
Coolum Surf Life Saving Club is right on the beach with fantastic views out to sea and an extensive menu that’s great for family dining. Nearby Tickle Park, also right on the beach, has a big playground to keep the kids busy and free gas barbeques, making the centre of Coolum an easy place to while away a day, a week or however long you can spare.
Across from the beach there are plenty of shops to browse and a wide range of cafes and restaurants, covering everything from fast food to fine dining with Harvest Restaurant a firm favourite.
Walk it off...
Wandering along the new Coolum boardwalks to the look-outs at Point Perry and Point Arkwright, which offer great land-based whale-spotting opportunities during the annual migration season between June and October.
If you’re fit...
Up for a challenge, hike to the top of Mount Coolum for fantastic 360° views of the coast, the Hinterland and even whales spouting off at the right time of year. Mount Emu is a less strenuous walk with views that are almost as good.
Coolum hosts regular events...
PGA Golf Tournament and Tastes of Coolum in June, which attracts foodies from all over the Sunshine Coast.
Don’t miss nearby Peregian Beach with its village atmosphere and weekly markets. Peregian really comes alive as host for the SunshineCoast's largest free outdoor music event, the Peregian Originals, on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, weather permitting. Just a five minute drive north of Coolum, Peregian has a great selection of cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Or you can walk to Peregian Beach in about half an hour and hop on a bus back to Coolum afterwards if you’ve feeling tired after all that activity or it’s just too hot.
Conveniently...
Situated less than a two hour drive north of Brisbane, Coolum has everything you need for the perfect holiday and makes the ideal base for day trips to Noosa North Shore, the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, the Glass House Mountains, Australia Zoo, the Eumundi markets and even Fraser Island.
